With successful channels like Zee Cinema HD, Zee has consistently demonstrated its commitment to engaging niche audiences through high-quality linear television. Recognising a growing demand for regional content, particularly among Punjabi-speaking viewers, Zee sought to expand its portfolio with Zee Punjabi HD, a new 24/7 channel for Virgin Media subscribers.

Punjabi is the fourth most commonly spoken language in England and Wales, with nearly 300,000 speakers (ONS Census 2021). The new channel would deepen Zee’s connection with this community and reinforce its leadership in regional broadcasting.

Launching Zee Punjabi HD required delivering a high-quality linear channel that met Virgin Media’s rigorous broadcast standards for uptime, feed quality, and seamless infrastructure integration.

Traditional satellite and fiber-based workflows couldn’t provide the flexibility or cost efficiency required for this expansion. Zee needed a scalable, cloud-based delivery model capable of supporting not just this launch, but future regional channels as well, without major infrastructure changes.

Viewer expectations added urgency. Punjabi-speaking audiences expect uninterrupted access to culturally significant programming, especially during holidays and community events. The new workflow had to guarantee reliability, efficiency, and broadcast-grade performance from day one.

To overcome these challenges, Zee Entertainment UK partnered with Cerberus Tech, building on their successful collaboration for Zee Cinema HD.

The setup included:

• Main, backup, and disaster recovery feeds routed through Livelink for uninterrupted 24/7 delivery
• Real-time monitoring and proactive support, ensuring rapid response to technical issues
• Seamless integration with Zee’s existing workflows, allowing operational continuity

The managed service model allowed Zee to focus on programming and audience engagement while Cerberus Tech handled the complexities of IP-based broadcast delivery. The solution fully met Virgin Media’s technical standards and provided a future-ready foundation for further regional launches.

The launch of Zee Punjabi HD on Virgin Media marked a major milestone for Zee Entertainment UK, successfully extending its reach to Punjabi-speaking audiences nationwide.
