Protocol Flexibility

Connect Anything, Deliver Everywhere

In live IP video distribution, protocol choice is rarely uniform.

Source encoders, cloud platforms, contribution networks, and delivery endpoints each arrive with their own transport requirements and the ability to accommodate that diversity without introducing additional processing infrastructure is a fundamental operational advantage.

Livelink supports a comprehensive suite of industry-standard ingest protocols natively, enabling seamless connectivity across the full breadth of modern broadcast infrastructure.

Protocol Flexibility & Support

Supported Input Protocols

RIST (Reliable Internet Stream Transport) support covers the open-standard protocol increasingly adopted for contribution and distribution workflows where interoperability across vendors is a priority. Livelink’s RIST implementation supports reliable transport over unmanaged networks, making it well suited to contribution paths where packet loss and jitter are a practical reality.

SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) is supported in both Caller and Listener modes, giving operators full flexibility over connection initiation regardless of network topology or firewall configuration. SRT’s built-in encryption and error correction make it a preferred protocol for contribution over public internet infrastructure, and Livelink’s dual-mode support ensures compatibility with the broadest possible range of SRT-enabled encoders and platforms.

Zixi is supported in both Push and Pull modes, accommodating the connection models used across Zixi-enabled encoder and platform ecosystems. For operations already invested in Zixi infrastructure, Livelink integrates directly without requiring protocol conversion or additional gateway hardware.

RTMP support covers the ingest requirements of cloud platforms, software encoders, and streaming workflows where RTMP still remains a common contribution protocol ensuring that Livelink can receive feeds from the widest possible range of source types, including live production software, hardware encoders, and third-party cloud services.

Why It Matters Operationally

Protocol fragmentation is one of the most common sources of unnecessary complexity in live distribution workflows. When a platform supports only a subset of the protocols in active use across an operation, the result is conversion hardware, additional processing hops, and increased points of failure in the signal chain.

By supporting RIST, SRT, Zixi, and RTMP natively — and accommodating the specific modes and connection models that real-world deployments require — Livelink removes that friction entirely. Engineers can connect source encoders, cloud platforms, and contribution gateways directly, without protocol mediation, regardless of what sits at either end of the feed.

As IP transport standards continue to evolve, Livelink’s protocol support is designed to expand alongside them — ensuring that your distribution infrastructure remains compatible with both current deployments and future technology choices.
