The Challenge

An urgent and cost-effective delivery of the Roland Garros tennis tournament from the host broadcaster to SBB in 4K to reach audiences in Serbia.

Given the dramatic reduction of sporting events as a result of the pandemic, and with the majority of sporting events taking place behind closed doors, demand for sports content is higher than ever and with World Number 1 Novak Djokovic competing, Serbia was no exception.

The Solution

Like many sporting events, tennis tournaments are multi-day, multi-week events and so we set up the delivery using our 24/7 IP distribution platform, Network 1, to ensure the feeds were connected, stable and monitored throughout.

Whilst 4K content can add a layer of complexity for some delivery methods, Network 1 doesn’t have any limitations so the comparably high bit-rate was not an issue.

The Results

Our comprehensive engineering onboarding process means that we have effectively “seen it all before” when it comes to affiliate/taker set up.

With hardware already in situ at SBB, it was just a case of configuring and routing the 1+1 feed, confirming all parties were happy, and then it was over to the courts!

From affiliate introduction to confirmation of acceptance, it took less than 24 hours to get this service set up and there were (almost!) zero reported problems for the duration of the tournament.

  • Less than 24 hours to setup.
  • Zero reported problems.
  • Simple configuration and routing of the 1+1 feed.
“I want to thank you all for the cooperation on this professional level. It was a pleasure working with you… although we had one incident, but at the very end of the event…we didn’t want to report it to you…maybe we should have done it. Djokovic lost 0:3 in the final and please do some optimisations on your platform to prevent this happening next time!”
